Yorkshire

If you need good sows, you can count on the Yorkshire breed to produce some of the best mothers in the swine industry.  No other breed is more recognized by breeders as the “Mother Breed” than the Yorkshire for its ability to produce healthy, heavy-weaning litters.

The Yorkshire breed has gained worldwide popularity for excellent sow productivity because of their quality underlines, large litters and prolificacy.  Yorkshire females settle easily at an early age, maintain optimum condition during lactation, cycle quickly after weaning and settle on the first heat cycle after weaning.  Yorkshire boars are being used as terminal sires in crossbreeding programs.

Few other breeds can boast the structural soundness that this breed possesses, which gives producers more management flexibility.  Yorkshire boars and gilts are genetically designed to withstand the rigors of modern day confinement.
